The look on the face of the property developer‘s agent doesn‘t bode well. Hardly has the planners‘ meeting started when he blurts out: «As indicated by a recent calculation by the engineers for the old building, the loadbearing structure of the existing underground carpark won‘t withstand the load of the new building. Either we consider dismantling or we strengthen the whole thing with joists. There‘s no possibility of an increased construction budget…». He stops mid-sentence and looks at those present with astonishment. None of them seem in the least worried. The Caretta+Weidmann Project Manager says: «I thought as much and have already been looking around for savings options». He states that, together with specialist planners, he has managed to simplify the facade structure. The initial objections of the architect had been dispelled and so a major share of the anticipated extra costs could be saved.
